Label
YayTurkish house producer Tolga Fidan first made a name for himself through Alex Knoblauch's mighty Vakant label, back in the days when house was very much on a minimal tip. Although that wave of dance music has dissolved into many different strains by now, Fidan has kept himself grounded and, most of all, true to his original roots. This new EP for the nifty Yay Recordings is testament to that; the opening "Kompozistaperec" has the crunch and hubby soul of a 90s house tune but the melodies circling above it point to his minimal techno days, with the same going for the buzzy tones and snappy drums of "Yergun". "Frimagel Taperec" switches things up considerably thanks to the injection of some lazy, half-step electro drums and cosmic synth explosions, while "Island33" unleashes a devilish little acid tip over a bubbling bass line and a distant landscape of sounds.
