For those not in the loop, Sworn Virgins is an occasional project featuring the combined talents of Paranoid London's Quinn Whalley and old pal Craig Louis Higgins, Jr AKA Mutado Pintado. This fine EP marks their third outing on Soulwax's DeeWee label and their first since 2019. Their sound is eccentric, analogue-rich and quirky, offering a sleazy, strobe-lit fusion of disco, lo-fi synth-pop, electrofunk and proto-house. Our pick of a very strong bunch is undoubtedly 'Male Man', a squelchy-sounding, tongue-in-cheek fusion of crisp disco guitars, tactile synth sounds, crunchy machine drums and a typically stylish spoken word vocal from Higgins.
