Label
chandelleAs in Dante's Inferno, there are many layers to Paris' dance music underground; and we think it's safe to say that the independent electronica label MAHRES is not among its surface echelons. Spanning industrial, synth, techno and breakcore, MAHRES' sensibility is devilish and collective, preferring the mode of V/A EP, in true fealty to the breakcore releasers of yore. Their latest, 'Serpent a Plumes', nominally describes the feathered serpent - the worst in the bestiary - and hears producers Sektor, U-Died, C.ru.z and Human_Aventura team up for a sonic recapturing of the beast caught on Tascam. Spy-thriller guitar stabs abound on 'Last Stand'; muddied, brash chiptune abrades the ears on 'Playa Rock'; cascading claps and claves clatter around on 'Soul Punisher'; grave sawtooths and crude melodies on 'Nuevo Orden'. All huge electro portenders of a serpentine end of the world.
